100,000 Iranian of Azerbaijani heritage who were U.S. citizens. The soon to be released 2000 census is expected to have the U.S. citizens of the origins in Azerbaijan provinces (Tabriz, Ardebil, Urumia, etc. or ethnic Azeris of Tehran) to be anywhere between 200,000 to 500,000.
It is believed that a number of Azerbaijani Americans were in the World Trade Center building at the time of the blast, and perhaps they are still buried beneath the rubble, as we speak. Our thoughts and prayers are with them and other Americans who were victims of this heinous act and their families.
Thousands of Azeri Americans are shocked and grief stricken by this senseless tragedy are united with the rest of the great American people in mourning, horror and disbelieve.
Many Azeri people have rushed to the local red cross centers and have been donating their blood for the victims.
What makes this tragedy specially hard is that the Azeri Americans along with the other Middle Eastern or Moslem Americans are in fear for their family and children for being possibly victimized by the ignorance that maybe directed at them by a few opportunistic racist element in the society.

Azeri American brave men and women, serve in the various Police and Fire Departments across the country.
Hundreds of Azeri Americans are serving in the uniforms of reserves or active units of the great branches of United States Armed forces such as Navy, the Marines, Army and Air Force. They are fully prepared to fight against the coward enemies of America.
If the perpetrators of this cowardly act have been originated in Afghanistan, as the evidence seem to be pointing to so far, rest assured that the Azeri Americans along with other Americans military personal will be called upon to fill active roles as translators or other specialist position in combat.
We ask our fellow Azeris in Tabriz, Tehran, cities across Southern Azerbaijan and our brothers and sisters in the Azerbaijan Republic to keep the Azerbaijanis in America in their prayers.
